The Start
During the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us found solace with new hobbies to keep ourselves occupied. For me, it was re-discovering a middling ability for illustration. What started as a simple pastime during lockdown has now evolved into something more meaningful. My very first digital illustration (drawn with Photoshop and Illustrator), holds a special place in my heart. It depicts a moment of pure joy and celebration between two legendary footballers – Gary Neville and Paul Scholes. I’ve called it The Kiss.
The image that I created captures the essence of a Manchester Derby, a fiercely contested match between Manchester United and their rivals, Manchester City. It was a game that went down in history, with Paul Scholes scoring an injury-time winner that sent fans into a frenzy. The moment that followed, Gary Neville embracing Scholes in pure elation, perfectly encapsulated the passion and camaraderie between players who grew up together at United.
As an avid fan of Manchester United, this particular moment resonated deeply with me. It symbolized the spirit of teamwork, loyalty, and the never-give-up attitude that defines the club. The image became a personal favorite, not just for its artistic value, but also for the emotions it evoked.
You’ll see from my later daubings that my style has evolved. Sometimes as a result of experimentation, or sometimes because of the limited nature of the source material. The process of honing my skills and experimenting with different techniques has been a rewarding journey – you’d probably appreciate this more if you’d seen some of the garbage that flowed from my pen!
The Middle
As I shared my artwork with friends , many suggested that I make it available to a wider audience. That’s when the idea of creating fan merchandise came into play. It took a while but, I cobbled together who-dis.com to showcase my fan art. Consequently, my illustrations are now available on various products, including tee shirts and other goodies.
Who-dis.com provides a platform to share my passion with the world. It allows fans to own a piece of art that represents their love for their favorite teams and players. The site offers a wide range of merchandise allowing supporters to express their devotion in a unique and stylish way.
